The future of D’Ambrosio to be known within three weeks
In a reserved position in the often thankless role of third driver, Jérôme D'Ambrosio still hopes to return to the starting grids next year, even though the available seats are few. The only certainty is that his future should be revealed in at most three weeks.
Despite the official announcements of Charles Pic at Caterham and Esteban Gutiérrez at Sauber for 2013, a few seats are still available for next season. This includes Nico Hülkenberg’s seat at Force India, the second Caterham seat, and even at Lotus where Romain Grosjean has not yet been confirmed for next season. Among the candidates for a permanent position is Jérôme D’Ambrosio, the third driver for the Enstone team, who hopes to know his future in the coming weeks as he explained yesterday on the RTBF broadcast at the end of the Grand Prix: « No decision has been made yet, we need to wait a little longer. Within one, two, or even three weeks. One thing is for sure, my goal remains Formula 1, so I will stay in F1 one way or another; now we’ll see if it’s in the same way as this year, in a different way, or if I will have to combine with another program. All of this will be decided in the coming weeks. »
In the worst-case scenario, the one who had stepped in for Grosjean at the last minute in Monza should still be with Lotus as the third driver with an additional program, hoping to secure a seat in 2014, even though available spots will be highly competitive for more than one reason.
