Sunday: Red Bull secures a third constructors’ title
Sebastian Vettel was unable to secure a win at the Circuit of the Americas, but the German driver's second place still offers a third consecutive constructors' title to the Red Bull Racing team. His teammate wasn't as lucky, with Mark Webber having to retire due to a mechanical issue.
Sebastian Vettel – 2nd:
I’m very, very happy for the team; they’re clinching a third constructors’ title. It has been a difficult year so far and they have worked tirelessly; they deserve to win because we have been the best team. Obviously, Mark [Webber] and I have pushed hard all year. It’s a shame that Mark wasn’t able to finish today. It was a very good race and we did everything we could, but unfortunately we hit traffic at the wrong time and I lost the gap I had on Lewis. He used his chance well, I tried to cover the inside but he was much faster on the straight. I respect the positions; Lewis [Hamilton] beat us fair and square. We showed we had the pace today and now we are fully focused on the next race.
Mark Webber – Retirement [Alternator]
« A third constructors’ title for the team is an incredible achievement. Three consecutive years is something I think no one would have envisioned when we won our first races, so the results achieved over the years are truly fantastic. This championship has probably been the most difficult for many reasons and – it’s a cliché – but it has been a real team effort. As for today’s race, I had to stop due to an alternator problem. We had low voltage for the battery for a few laps and then I lost gearbox synchronization and KERS, something happened on the battery side. It’s frustrating; because we had a good start and a nice fight with Lewis. We had issues to solve, but even when I knew we had them, we kept moving forward, but we had to stop eventually. »
