Sunday: Goal achieved for Williams in the United States
The Williams F1 team set a goal after the qualifying session: to place both of its cars in the points by the end of the race. Pastor Maldonado's 9th place, combined with Bruno Senna's 10th, allows the Grove team to achieve their objective.
Pastor Maldonado – 9th:
« After today’s race, I am happy for the team, for the Venezuelan fans, and for myself. I hope it becomes one of the best events of the season in Formula 1. In the first lap, I went wide, which meant I had to fight to keep my positions, but I enjoyed those moments. It was a great race and we were competitive. At the start, I lost many places but managed to climb back up quickly. In the last lap, I was battling with Hülkenberg but needed a few more laps to overtake him. I look forward to the final round in Brazil and we are ready to fight again. »
Bruno Senna – 10th:
Unfortunately, starting on the dirty side of the track impacted my race in the first few corners. We had a good pace despite everything and we were able to overtake when needed. Nevertheless, we came out of the pits behind Nico [Hülkenberg], which was frustrating because he was fast enough coming out of turn 11 on each lap and I couldn’t overtake him. I pushed hard and damaged my tires. Pastor [Maldonado] took advantage of this to catch up. I knew Pastor would attempt an overtake and I wasn’t going to close the door because we needed the points for the team. Overall, it was quite a difficult race, but in the end, we got both cars in the points, and that was our goal.
