Saturday: big disappointment in the Sauber camp
No Sauber driver managed to get beyond Q2 today during the qualifying for the 2012 United States Grand Prix. Kobayashi and Pérez specifically complained about issues with getting their tires up to temperature and effectively exploiting their performance.
Sergio Pérez – 8th and 15th:
We lost a lot of performance compared to this morning’s free practice session and for the moment, we don’t know why. The track temperature increased significantly, but for me the tire warm-up wasn’t better. My car tended to oversteer a lot during qualifying. Maybe we didn’t properly follow the way the track evolved. I want to thank all the people in the stands, especially all the Mexicans, who sacrificed time and money to come to Austin and buy tickets. In my country, you always come with your whole family and I know it’s not easy to do because it’s quite an expensive trip. I would have liked to do better today, but I will give my best to offer all these people a good race tomorrow. I will fight for points even if it will be difficult.
Kamui Kobayashi – 14th and 16th:
The result is undoubtedly disappointing for us because after the three practice sessions, we were hoping for better qualification results. I found it easier to bring the tires up to temperature this afternoon, but I couldn’t find the peak performance of the tires. I don’t know why yet. Tomorrow during the race, it should be less problematic to get the tires working well, but obviously our grid positions will make it difficult to achieve a good result.
