United States: Webber’s Red Bull under investigation
Third in qualifying, Mark Webber is nonetheless under investigation by the Circuit of the Americas stewards for missing a weigh-in.
Qualified in third position, behind Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber saw his Red Bull placed under investigation by the stewards after the Australian missed a weighbridge check during qualifying, around 12:19 local time, at the very end of Q1.
Random inspections can occur at any time during the sessions, and theoretically, the drivers cannot avoid them.
Update at 11:16 PM:
Mark Webber ultimately receives only a reprimand. Although the infraction was confirmed, the FIA noted that the error was quickly corrected as Webber’s car was immediately brought back from his pit to be weighed. For information, in Bahrain, Jean-Eric Vergne had also missed a weigh-in, and the FIA showed the same leniency since in the same circumstances – car brought back immediately – he received the same sanction.
