The cinema year 2013 will be marked by the release on the big screens of the film Rush which revisits the 1976 season of the top category, and the duel between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

The triple Austrian world champion visited the film set and he is pleased with what he saw: “I was on the set in Cologne. It’s looking very good. They’ve already shown it to a few people. They’ve tested it and it seems very good. Now they have to edit it and add the music. It’s a lot of work,” Lauda told the site F1Pulse.

The 1976 championship was obviously marked by the serious accident that befell the Austrian driver during the race at the Nürburgring circuit, in which Lauda could have lost his life. However, the Ferrari driver quickly returned to competition to defend his title chances.

To best align with the reality of the time, Peter Morgan, the screenwriter of the film, spoke with Lauda. « It’s my only role, to answer Peter Morgan’s questions about that time. I told him what happened and then he wrote the film, » explains Lauda.

Directed by Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, Rush is set for release on September 25, 2013. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) plays the role of James Hunt, while Niki Lauda is portrayed by Daniel Bruhl (Inglorious Basterds, Good Bye Lenin!).

« The theatrical release is the most important thing. So we will wait to see how people who watch the movie will respond. If they are happy, then I will be happy. But until then I have to wait, » concluded the Austrian.
