Grosjean: In the Wrong Place at the Wrong Time
In Abu Dhabi, Romain Grosjean found himself involved in various incidents. Again? Some might say. Except this time, the Frenchman is not at all to blame.
While his teammate won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Romain Grosjean was forced to retire following a collision with Sergio Pérez and Mark Webber. The Frenchman has been under close scrutiny since his accidents at Spa-Francorchamps and Suzuka, but the events of the Abu Dhabi race will have no impact as the Lotus driver was not at fault. « This three-way battle [Pérez, Di Resta, Grosjean] ended in an accident but we cannot blame him because it was a racing incident, » says Eric Boullier.
It is true that Sergio Pérez, then battling with Paul di Resta’s Force India, was more than optimistic when he launched his attack on the Scottish driver, which forced him off the track. As he returned to the circuit, the Mexican apparently did not check his mirrors, and Grosjean couldn’t avoid him, nor could Webber.
Earlier in the race, the French-Swiss driver had been the victim of a puncture following a contact with Nico Rosberg at the end of the long straight, the same spot where Vettel lost pieces of his wing on Bruno Senna’s Williams. I can’t blame him, and I can’t blame myself either. I think it’s just a racing incident. It was just a bit tight, analyzes the German driver in a video posted on his Facebook page after the race.
