Sunday: Sauber closes the gap on Mercedes thanks to Kobayashi
As Kamui Kobayashi allows Sauber to score 8 more points in the World Constructors' Championship, Sergio Pérez could have also brought valuable points to the Swiss team if not for a collision with Romain Grosjean. The Hinwil team is now only 12 points behind Mercedes.
Kamui Kobayashi – 6th:
« It was a very difficult race and I am very happy to have been able to take those eight points for the team. Fighting for fifth place in the constructors’ standings in the next two races will be very exciting. Unfortunately, today I couldn’t use the car’s full performance. There was a problem with downshifting, which meant I couldn’t properly recharge the KERS and therefore didn’t have its full power. That said, the race went well. I got a good start while the team did a great job in terms of timing, strategy, and pit stops. »
Sergio Perez – 15th:
We seemed really good in the race and I had the feeling that even the podium could have been possible. But then, after my pit stop, I got stuck behind Romain Grosjean and Paul di Resta, and I couldn’t get past them because I didn’t have enough straight-line speed. I had to take a lot of risks to get through but, unfortunately, I got tangled with the Lotus and my race was over. It’s really a shame because our race pace was very good.
