Friday: Ferrari better on long runs than over a single lap
After testing new parts on the F2012, which Pat Fry considers a positive addition, Scuderia Ferrari still needs to decide which ones will be used for the rest of the weekend. The Italian car, seemingly competitive on long stints, still needs to improve its qualifying pace.
Fernando Alonso – 4th and 7th:
« The day coming to an end is a Friday like any other during which we completed our entire program. The morning session was dedicated to comparing different aerodynamic solutions, while this afternoon we focused on the tires. Between the first and the second session, the track changed a lot, which was predictable to be honest because there aren’t many races here during the weekend: at first, it seemed very dirty but then it improved and tomorrow it will certainly be even better. »
Felipe Massa – 11th and 8th:
We completed all the scheduled work for each of the two sessions, which is always a good thing. As usual, we tested the tires, first with a low fuel load and then with much more, in order to evaluate them on long stints. From what we observed, we are reasonably competitive on long stints but less so on a single fast lap. Of course, it would be better if we were a bit faster, but we will see what the situation is when it really counts, namely tomorrow afternoon during qualifying.
