Friday: Toro Rosso reviews all possibilities
Toro Rosso prepared for the rest of the weekend in a studious manner today. Ricciardo and Vergne evaluated different types of settings, and the car of the little Scuderia seems capable of delivering a strong performance on this circuit. However, more work and analysis of the collected data will be necessary to make progress.
Daniel Ricciardo – 9th and 14th:
« I enjoyed driving on this circuit last year and it was even more enjoyable today in a faster car than back then. I had some good moments, pushing as much as possible to be in good shape for tomorrow. In general, I think we achieved what we wanted. We were good this morning so we didn’t make many changes from FP1 and the overall balance of the car seems good. In the afternoon, it was clear that the track evolution affected the balance and we need to keep that in mind because it will evolve even more tomorrow and we need to anticipate the changes on the car accordingly. »
Jean-Eric Vergne – 17th and 18th:
« It was my first time on this circuit and it’s really fun, you’re busy throughout the lap. However, my pace wasn’t that good and we really need to look at the data and decide what to do because we are one second off where we should be. Regarding the tires, it seems there is a big difference between the softs and the hards but no worries from that standpoint. Daniel and I had two different setups to evaluate different choices and his settings clearly worked better than mine so we will keep that in mind tonight. »
