For Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso deserves to be champion
While not detracting from the merit Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel might have in winning a third consecutive title, Lewis Hamilton believes that Fernando Alonso deserves the title and that Ferrari has made no mistakes. The Briton also reflects on his end of the season where he hopes to step onto the podium and assures that there is no issue between him and Jenson Button.
With four races left in the season, the outcome seems to boil down to a duel between Sebastian Vettel, the new championship leader, and Fernando Alonso, now trailing six points behind the Red Bull driver. Behind the two double world champions, Kimi Räikkönen, provisionally the third wheel of the 2012 season, is 48 points behind, while Lewis Hamilton is over two victories away, with 153 points compared to the German’s 215.
While the Briton acknowledged on Sunday that logic suggested it was probably over for him, Lewis Hamilton has already found his favorite for the 2012 world champion title: “I feel that Fernando deserved it throughout the year. His team has not made a single mistake. He wasn’t always the fastest, but he was there. He drove all year like the champion he is and for me, it’s as if he is a triple world champion,” stated the Stevenage native to ESPNF1. “Red Bull has experienced more ups and downs, but they still did a great job, they won the last three races.”
As far as he is concerned, although his chances for titles more or less evaporated in Yeongam, Lewis Hamilton remains focused and assures that everything is fine between him and Jenson Button: « I haven’t been distracted once this year. I’m always 100% with this team until the last minute. People will continue to say there is a rift between Jenson and me but, honestly, there isn’t a slightest problem between us. I’ve been part of this team for so many years, I have great relationships here. I think I’m as loved as I love the team. I hope it will be possible to make the podium in the last four races, but we weren’t fast enough in Korea. »
