Sunday: Vettel and Webber for Red Bull’s first one-two finish in 2012

Starting from pole position, Mark Webber quickly had to give up the lead of the race to Sebastian Vettel, who never relinquished it until the checkered flag. The German thus claimed his fourth victory of the season and the lead in the drivers' championship, while Mark Webber, disappointed not to have won, enabled the Austrian team to achieve their first one-two finish in 2012.

Sunday: Vettel and Webber for Red Bull’s first one-two finish in 2012

Sebastian Vettel – Winner:

I think it was a perfect day for me and the team. It was important to get a good start. I managed to beat Mark on acceleration, and when we were side-by-side, I had the inside line in turn 3 and made a good exit, which meant I could stay ahead in turn 4. I was in the lead, but we’ve seen in the past that it doesn’t always last.

My only mistake today was a wheel lock-up entering turn 3, but with the tires, it was borderline for everyone. We couldn’t push too much and my front right didn’t feel very good. We were able to build a gap in the first and second stints, to hold on in the third. We will have to do our best to stay where we are today. We just need to keep things simple and do our job.

Mark Webber – 2nd:

« I had a bit too much clutch at the start, which is disappointing. I fought with Sebastian on the back straight when all was not lost. I tried to attempt something, but as soon as I got out of his slipstream, we both had the same speed. After that, I was pretty good in the first part of the race. I couldn’t use the DRS because of the yellow flag and after that it became a tire war.

The second stint wasn’t too good as I was a little slower to preserve the tires, but it worsened the degradation. The last stint was the best, but it was already too late.

Congratulations to Sebastian for his victory and it’s great for the team that we secured the double, especially considering the constructors’ championship, but my emotions are mixed. It was a good result, but I wanted the win today.
