Sunday: Vettel wins masterfully in Japan
Sebastian Vettel was in a league of his own today at Suzuka; the German driver clinched a magnificent victory and took advantage of Fernando Alonso's retirement to close in on the Spaniard in the drivers' championship. Mark Webber, on the other hand, had a difficult race after being hit by Romain Grosjean right after the start.
Sebastian Vettel – Winner:
It was a fantastic weekend. Yesterday’s qualifying was perfect, and today once again, the car’s balance was incredible. We didn’t change much during the stops; the car seemed to run beautifully. I’m really pleased, the guys have worked very hard, and even though we didn’t have major upgrades here, we put everything together, and the balance was good – and that’s what made the difference today. It’s a shame for Alonso, it’s not something you wish for, and it could happen to us in the next race. We’ve seen this year that there are a lot of ups and downs, and things change very quickly – we need to keep our heads down and take things one at a time.
Mark Webber – 9th:
« I didn’t see what happened at the start, but I was told that it was Grosjean who hit me. We are trying to fight for good results every weekend, and this doesn’t help, so yes, it’s frustrating because some big players suffered today. We decided to switch to a one-stop strategy from there, but I kept pushing, I didn’t give up and managed to make something out of it. Finishing eight seconds from fifth place, taking into account that I was last at one point – and also that the safety car came out before I could catch up with the pack – is something. I will bounce back in Korea. »
