Friday: A first normal day for Toro Rosso
Toro Rosso had a normal Friday in Suzuka. Both drivers were able to complete the scheduled program and improve the car's behavior, which, as is often the case, seems faster in race configuration than on a single flying lap. Jean-Eric Vergne was discovering this track and believes he can find more rhythm during the upcoming practice sessions.
Daniel Ricciardo – 15th and 16th:
« It’s really a great circuit, I’m happy to be back after my first experience here last year and I had a lot of fun driving today. I particularly like the 130 R, which is a real challenge with the DRS, and it’s a part of the circuit where, sometimes, you hold your breath. »
« This morning we started on the usual basis and I felt that we could make some changes, which we did between the two sessions. I think it improved the car even if it didn’t seem to help us close the gap with our opponents, which suggests that everyone made progress. However, I am happy to have made progress and as often, it seems that we are more competitive on long runs, which is important given that points are only distributed on Sunday. »
Jean-Eric Vergne – 16th and 17th:
« Another circuit that I had only seen in the simulator before today, and I must say it is really nice. The best part is the first section with the Esses, where it is very enjoyable to drive. Aside from that, I must say it has been a positive day for us, a normal Friday. I think we have a good pace even if there are still things we can work on to find more performance for the rest of the weekend. Since it’s my first time here, I’m also improving each time I get on track, so there is more to come from me as well. »
