Alain Prost could conduct the first tests of the Renault V6
Renault could entrust the first run of its next F1 engine block, a V6 Turbo, to four-time world champion Alain Prost.
After getting back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car this weekend at Castellet during a round of the Renault World Series, Alain Prost might attempt the experience again very soon. Indeed, the four-time French World Champion is expected to test the new 1.6L Turbo V6 engine from the Viry-Chatillon manufacturer. « Driving a modern Formula 1 car is very interesting, and I might have the chance to do it again with a new engine in two months. It would be another good experience. I am already thinking about the new technologies coming to Formula 1 with the new engines. I am going to work very hard with Renault on this, that’s our goal, » explains the Professor.
Since the beginning of 2012, Prost has become an ambassador for the diamond brand, thus reconnecting with the manufacturer whose colors he defended from 1981 to 1983. It was also with an engine branded Renault that he won his last world title in 1993.
The V6 Turbo will replace the current V8s in 2014 to align more closely with the commercial car market, and some fear that the distinctive sound of Formula 1 single-seaters may no longer be as deafening. This is particularly the case, for example, with Bernie Ecclestone, who had the opportunity to listen to the sound of the next engine developed by Scuderia Ferrari.
