Sunday: Marussia reaches a milestone thanks to the Singapore result

Timo Glock – 12th:

« It was an incredible race for us. I knew that with our strategy, we could do something if we managed to stay close to Kovalainen in the first stint, and that’s what I tried to do—extracting the maximum from the car. Unfortunately, the rear tire pressure got a little too high, and I lost the car at turn 19 and hit the wall. At first, I thought the race was over, and I realized there was a problem, and I had to adapt my driving style and do everything to keep the car on the track. I had to get used to the car’s behavior, so I was saving my rear-right tire in all the left turns and making the most of it in the right turns to set a time. When the safety car came out, I knew it might give us a chance to fight again.

After the first safety car intervention, I could go faster than Heikki [Kovalainen] and at the end, when he went back to the pits, I knew I needed to attack as much as possible before he returned with fresher tires. Regarding the pit stops, the team really did a great job, and we are consistent now. We obviously need to maintain this 10th place until the end of the season and I hope we can do it. In the last four months, we have really closed the gap with Caterham and this is a great reward for everyone in the team because it hasn’t been easy. We will enjoy this moment while continuing to push for the next race and the ones after.

Charles Pic – 16th [after penalty]:

« First of all, I have to say bravo to the entire team. Today’s team result is important for everyone and it’s a great reward for all the work done in the Grand Prix and at the factory this year. On my side, I’m happy with my race; I finished 15th and finally 16th with the twenty-second penalty. The plan was to have a race with two stops and two long stints on Soft tires, but with the safety car interventions, it didn’t work out. We were forced to have a long final stint on Super Softs, and we experienced significant degradation because of that. Overall, it was a good weekend, and I am delighted with my performance from Free Practice 1 to qualifying for what was probably one of the toughest new circuits to tackle this season. And there are still a few more to come! Overall, racing in Singapore was an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to experience it again. »
