Saturday: Mercedes leaves tire choice for the race

Many were waiting to see how the improved Mercedes would perform on the Singapore track. Well, those people might have been a bit disappointed as the German team skipped Q3 to save tires for tomorrow's race, but also to have the freedom to choose the compounds to be mounted on the cars before the start of the Grand Prix.

Saturday: Mercedes leaves tire choice for the race

Michael Schumacher – 11th and 9th:

« I am relatively satisfied with our qualifying result considering what we have seen this weekend. Obviously, we could have tried to gain one or two positions but that would have been very difficult. However, we decided to abandon that option in favor of having a set of fresh tires and the freedom of choice for the race. We chose this strategy after the last practice session and after seeing who was in Q3. Let’s hope we can make the most of this choice tomorrow. »

Nico Rosberg – 8th and 10th:

« Our new features are working relatively well this weekend, although it will take a little more time to optimize everything. By not participating in Q3, we will have more opportunities for tomorrow’s race and we can decide whether we start with soft tires or super softs. It should be an interesting race, so let’s wait and see what we can do.
