Ecclestone impressed by the sound of the future V6 engine
According to the German press, Bernie Ecclestone had the privilege of attending a test of the Ferrari V6 engine and reportedly was delighted with the sound produced by the Italian engine.
In 2014, the V8 engines will be replaced by 1.6L V6 Turbo engines. While Cosworth’s involvement remains uncertain, Renault, Mercedes, and Ferrari are expected to continue in Formula 1 to supply engines to the teams on the world championship grid. In fact, these three engine manufacturers have already conducted tests of their future 1.6L V6 Turbo engines in recent months.
The prancing horse brand recently had a distinguished guest during one of its tests. Indeed, Auto Motor und Sport reports that Bernie Ecclestone visited the engine department of the Maranello factory on the sidelines of the Italian Grand Prix.
The chief financial officer of Formula 1 reportedly attended a test of the new V6 engine on the test bench. If he had been concerned about a potential change in the characteristic sound of Formula 1 engines, after listening to the symphony of this Ferrari V6 block, he reportedly left delighted with the sound produced, according to the German publication.
