Grosjean now accompanied by former coach of Teddy Riner
Following his suspension for a Grand Prix, Romain Grosjean has decided to review his entourage during Grand Prix. The French driver has notably called upon the former coach of Teddy Riner.
Until the London Olympic Games, Benoit Camargue was the coach of Teddy Riner, five-time world judo champion. Now, he is in charge of Romain Grosjean’s physical preparation for Formula 1 Grand Prix races.
The French driver decided to review his entourage for the Grand Prix and has brought Camargue into his circle, replacing Jean-Pierre Frizon. The two men already know each other as they have spent time together several times in recent months during visits to INSEP, the National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance: « I go there from time to time. I’m lucky to know people who work there. The premises are beautiful. I do a bit of gym, training, cardio… » explained Grosjean to RMC.
The Lotus F1 driver also revealed that he plans to revisit his management of the Grand Prix, especially from a mental perspective, as it’s an important aspect for an F1 driver: « Yes, it’s important. We have a somewhat unique job. We don’t need to be as athletic as a 100m sprinter, a rugby player, or a pole vaulter. But an F1 driver has to be mentally well, as it often comes down to small margins. It’s more the psychological aspect that makes the difference compared to the physical. »
Grosjean also explained that he would try to stay more in his bubble during certain key moments: « We need to review the format of the weekends. I need to learn to isolate myself when I need it and to say no. Which is not natural for me. »
