The R30 Pirelli immobilized due to an alternator problem
After the incidents encountered by Red Bull and Lotus with the alternators of the Renault engines, it is now Pirelli's turn to fall victim to a similar problem.
Since this year, Pirelli has been using a Renault R30 to conduct tire tests for upcoming seasons, a single-seater powered by a Renault engine, and the latter experienced an alternator failure today in Barcelona.
The problem is similar to those that led to the retirements of Sebastian Vettel and Romain Grosjean in Valencia. This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Italian manufacturer to *Autosport*: Earlier in the day, the 2010 R30 used by Pirelli for tire testing in Barcelona encountered an alternator problem similar to the one in Valencia earlier in the season. The engine was a 2010 version with a 2010 alternator similar to the one used in the first part of the 2012 season.
Following the problems encountered in Valencia, Renault made some modifications to its alternator, but that did not prevent Sebastian Vettel from experiencing two new issues in Monza, for which Renault had apologized to its partner.
