Pic is eager to race tomorrow in Monza
After a good qualifying session, Charles Pic is looking forward to the race, as the pace of the Marussia is always a bit better. While he believes that tires will not be an issue, he does not yet know which strategy he will choose.
Charles Pic will start tomorrow just behind his teammate at Marussia, Timo Glock, on the grid for the Italian Grand Prix. The French driver expressed satisfaction with his qualifying session: “It was rather a good qualifying, I had a bit of traffic on the first set, the second went pretty well, I managed to get a clear lap on the first run so it was a rather good qualifying. We are a bit closer to the Caterhams than we thought. Now, we need to focus on tomorrow’s race,” Pic shared during a press briefing.
The Montélimar native is eagerly anticipating the race because generally, the MR01 performs better there than in qualifying: « We had a setup on the front end that worked very well this morning, but we had to go back for qualifying. I think that’s what held us back a bit with the balance during qualifying, but overall, it’s a good qualifying session, and I’m looking forward to seeing our race pace tomorrow because, generally, it’s always better in the race than in qualifying. »
Pic estimates that strategy will be a key element, especially before the leaders lap him: « It will be necessary to choose the right strategy based on our pace to optimize the first and second part of the race where we will be free, where we won’t have blue flags. »
Regarding strategy, nothing has been decided yet concerning the number of pit stops: It’s between one and two stops, it’s true that one stop is doable because the degradation is very low, but we haven’t done the simulations yet so we don’t know yet, so it will be between one and two.
