Massa: “No one is better than me”
Rumors continue to circulate rapidly in the F1 paddocks about Felipe Massa's future with Scuderia Ferrari, but the Brazilian doesn't care. For him, the best candidate to support Alonso in 2013 is himself.
Monza is traditionally the Grand Prix during which Ferrari announces its driver duo for the following season. However, in recent years the Scuderia has deviated from the rule, and in this sense, 2012 will be no exception.
If Fernando Alonso is tied to the prancing horse brand until 2016, the same can’t be said for his teammate who has been at the center of numerous rumors for many months. After Sergio Pérez at the beginning of the season, there’s now much talk about Nico Hülkenberg to replace the Paulista at Maranello. Some rumors even suggest a return of Michael Schumacher to the reds if Lewis Hamilton were to leave McLaren for Mercedes.
« Many people want my seat, » observes the Brazilian in the columns of the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
It is true that it is easier to list the drivers who have not been linked to the second Ferrari seat than to list the so-called contenders for the red suit. But according to Massa, no candidate could do better than him alongside Fernando Alonso. “I don’t see anyone better [than me]. I only see people like Hamilton or Vettel to replace me, but they are not available,” adds Massa.
In the meantime, Ferrari is still considering its second driver for 2013 and Massa does not have a contract for the next season. This situation will not prevent him from helping Fernando Alonso if needed, with a view to the drivers’ championship.
« I don’t have a contract for 2013 yet but I will help Fernando. I am a professional and I will behave as such, » concluded the 2008 vice-champion.
