Friday: Yet more performance to find for Toro Rosso
After a double finish in the points, the Toro Rosso team hopes to be competitive this weekend at Monza as well, but for the moment, the STR7 lacks speed. Even with the tests, it is not easy to have a clear idea of the hierarchy, as Daniel Ricciardo admitted.
Daniel Ricciardo – 17th and 15th:
« You arrive in Monza with a low-downforce package and the car always behaves a bit differently. It moves more and you reach such speeds, so in terms of balance, it’s complicated to be happy here compared to other circuits where you have much more downforce. You have to slightly change your approach. We are looking for even more speed and even if we have to accept that it’s not perfect, I think we can improve over the rest of the weekend. We made some changes between the two sessions, but we don’t yet have a precise idea of where we currently stand. It’s nice to see people from the Faenza factory coming to support us here. »
Jean-Eric Vergne – 18th and 19th:
« These are my beginnings at Monza in a Formula 1 single-seater and you can clearly feel the speed! I have gotten used to driving with little downforce, and we still have work to do to improve our performance level. The team did a good job today in completing the test program, and now, we need to study the data to try to find the best settings for qualifying and the race. I must say that driving for an Italian team at Monza in front of such a crowd, including people from the factory, adds something special to the experience. »
