Saturday: Vergne ahead of Ricciardo at Toro Rosso
The Toro Rosso drivers believe they could hardly do better than the 15th and 16th places on the grid. Daniel Ricciardo thinks he could have been faster and remains optimistic for the race. Jean-Eric Vergne, on the other hand, is thrilled to have outpaced his teammate, which he sees as evidence of the progress made in qualifying since the start of the season.
Jean-Eric Vergne – 15th and 15th
I think it was a good performance from me and the team today. We know where we are compared to others, and after such a long break, we didn’t expect to be in Q3. Personally, I think I did a good job. I’ve struggled a bit with qualifying since the beginning of the year, but race after race, I’ve made progress, and today, finishing ahead of my teammate shows that I’m getting better at it. However, I made a few mistakes in my fast lap, so I might have been a little faster. We plan to be aggressive tomorrow and take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way on the track. I would really like to score some points, but it might be complicated.
Daniel Ricciardo – 15th and 16th:
I don’t think I did my best possible lap in Q2, as I did the same as in Q1. In general, you go faster in Q2 and I was hoping to be quicker but I didn’t manage to. I was hoping to be much better placed than 16th. But I remain positive for the race. I feel that we can do better tomorrow than our times today suggest, our pace showed positive signs.
