Buemi rules out a return to Marussia or HRT in 2013

After taking over from Sebastian Vettel at Toro Rosso in 2009, and after three years of more or less good, but always loyal, service in Faenza, Sebastien Buemi was let go by Red Bull in favor of giving opportunities to promising drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne. Unlike Jaime Alguersuari, the Swiss driver remained within the Red Bull galaxy, serving as the third driver in the main team: “My style is very similar to Vettel’s, whereas Webber’s is more aggressive. However, I am also capable of adapting to engineers’ demands. Being the third Red Bull driver is positive because we’re talking about one of the best teams in Formula One, and because this situation could help me secure a place on the grid next year,” explains Buemi in the Swiss edition of the newspaper 20 Minutes.

Since Mark Webber’s contract extension with Red Bull, the door is definitively closed for Sebastien Buemi within the reigning world champion team, unless he intends to spend another season watching his teammates have fun without him from the sidelines. The driver from Vaud, however, assures that he has various options for 2013: « There are already several options, but I can’t say more until I sign my contract. I can simply say that, for now, it seems like a good solution. »

The Swiss, who participated in the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans for Toyota, indicates, however, that he does not want to return just to make up the numbers and that neither Marussia nor HRT are options: « This prospect doesn’t interest me. It’s clear that I want to get back into competition, but these teams are still too far behind the others in the race. It wouldn’t be easy to race in these conditions, because after fifteen laps, you would have to be particularly careful not to get in the way of the faster cars that need to overtake. »
