Senna knows what he must do to stay in F1 in 2013
Bruno Senna, often mentioned as being in difficulty at Williams, believes he knows what to do to keep his race seat for the 2013 season.
Bruno Senna confided that the key to securing a full-time seat in F1 in 2013 was to improve his qualifying performances, in order to have a better chance of finishing in the points during races.
After two incomplete seasons with HRT in 2010 and then Lotus Renault GP in 2011, the Brazilian driver is having his first full season this year with the Williams-Renault team. He has often struggled against Pastor Maldonado, especially in qualifying. He has only reached Q3 once this season, which was at the last race in Hungary.
« Everyone needs opportunities to grow, and this one is mine. During the races, I think I’m doing a good job this season. As I’ve already said, better understanding the qualifications will be the key to ensuring that I stay next year and hopefully in the years to come, » Senna told the AFP.
The Brazilian driver may seem to be lagging behind Pastor Maldonado since the start of the season, which inevitably sparked rumors of a possible replacement by Valtteri Bottas, the team’s test driver as of this year—a rumor denied by the Finn and the Williams team.
If Bruno Senna has fewer points than Pastor Maldonado – 24 compared to the Venezuelan’s 29, the latter only scored points on two occasions in 11 Grand Prix, in China with an 8th place and in Spain with his victory. Meanwhile, Senna has been more consistent, with 6 finishes in the points in 11 races, and his best result being a 6th place in Malaysia.
If he manages to qualify higher on the grid, this consistency could allow him to score big points during the second half of the season and thus convince Williams to retain him in 2013.
