Ricciardo convinced to stay with Toro Rosso in 2013
The transfer season will soon start to become hectic. At Toro Rosso, Daniel Ricciardo hopes to keep his seat for next season but doesn't expect to know his fate quickly.
In summer, transfer talks are a hot topic in the world of Formula 1. With the announcement of Mark Webber’s renewal a few days after his victory in England, there are not many options left for the two young Toro Rosso drivers who therefore hope to stay another year with the Austrian brand’s B team.
However, Daniel Ricciardo admits that Webber’s signing is not really a surprise and that he always considered his collaboration with Toro Rosso to be for a minimum of two years.
« Unless we had signed podiums or done something extraordinary, I never thought it would happen next year, » responds the Australian when asked about the possibility of joining Red Bull Racing.
After completing the second half of the championship for HRT last year, Ricciardo is participating in his first full season in Formula 1 and he believes that he still has things to learn.
« I am very happy at Toro Rosso. I don’t have confirmation of what I will do next year, but I would be very happy to do another season here to improve myself, » adds Jean-Eric Vergne’s teammate.
Last season, Toro Rosso was not the fastest to announce its lineup for 2012, as Buemi and Alguersuari were let go only in December, which surprised the Spaniard, who had turned down an offer from another team thinking he was assured to drive for the Italian team in 2012. Knowing this, Ricciardo does not expect to have his future decided quickly, but it does not worry him in the least.
« It always happens late and since I started with the Red Bull Junior Team, I’ve never been certain before November. If it happened earlier, I would be surprised, » declares the current 18th in the championship.
