Just a week after the German Grand Prix, the drivers will not have had the time to catch their breath, enjoy their successes, or dwell on their failures, as they must already get back to work in Hungary. After two qualifying sessions held in the rain where Alonso secured pole position each time, in dry conditions and according to the initial practice sessions, the Spaniard could have a tough challenge ahead to achieve a hat-trick.

The McLaren drivers, back from the depths in Germany, showed in Budapest that they had the potential to achieve pole position, starting with Lewis Hamilton who was the fastest in both Friday sessions. However, Red Bull, quiet until then, hadn’t had its last word, as evidenced by Mark Webber’s best time in Free Practice 3, while the Lotus drivers, led by Kimi Räikkönen, could also compete for the front-row positions, crucial on the Hungarian circuit.
