Red Bull wants to play a leading role in Hungary
After Germany, Sebastian Vettel tackles a second Grand Prix he has never won with Hungary. The German driver would like to end this streak this weekend. His teammate, Mark Webber, hopes to achieve a good result on a track he appreciates.
Sebastian Vettel knows the Hungaroring circuit well, as it’s where he made his F1 debut with a team owned by Red Bull in 2007 – his real F1 debut dates back to the 2007 United States Grand Prix with BMW Sauber. The reigning double world champion has fond memories of the Hungarian track and the city of Budapest: “«The Budapest race is very popular and the city and the Danube offer many opportunities for fans outside the circuit. I really like the city and I made my debut in 2007 with Scuderia Toro Rosso at the Hungaroring.»”
The Red Bull driver expects a difficult race, particularly due to the track’s characteristics and the expected high temperatures: The track itself is one of the slowest of the season, but as a driver, you must not underestimate it because there are many opportunities to make mistakes. It can get very hot, which means the circuit can be very physically demanding. Additionally, there are many bumps, so you are shaken up quite frequently.
One of the challenges of this track is being able to overtake, as Mark Webber explains: « Overtaking is obviously not very easy on this circuit, but it will be interesting to see how the cars behave because it will be hot. The second sector is very, very demanding for the driver, and you need a good balance at the top of the hill. »
The Australian driver hopes to have a good race and finish in a good position to go on vacation with peace of mind: «The Hungaroring is an interesting event and we have always had good races here in the past. In general, I enjoy driving on this circuit and of course, we will try to do well before the summer break.»
For reference, Red Bull will compete in the 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix with a revised engine map, after the FIA clarified the regulations last Monday.
