Sunday: Schumacher and Rosberg are satisfied despite everything
Although they had to settle for 7th and 10th positions at the finish of their home Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg believe it was difficult to hope for more, even if each can take solace in having either set the fastest lap or made the best progress during the race.
Michael Schumacher – 7th:
There are better ways to finish a home race than dropping from third to seventh place. I got everything I could out of the car, unfortunately, that’s all we could do today. It’s a shame because I would have loved to offer more to all our colleagues from Mercedes-Benz who were supporting us today.
Before this weekend, we hoped to fight for 5th to 7th place, and of course, fifth place would have been a much better option, but seventh place was our maximum under these circumstances.
I had a relatively good start and the little scrap with Sebastian [Vettel] was fun. After that, unfortunately, there weren’t too many highlights apart from, maybe, the fastest lap in the race. However, we couldn’t sustain this pace for very long. Now, we have to move forward and do our best in the next race.
Nico Rosberg – 10th:
« It’s good to have scored a point today after such a bad qualifying session yesterday and starting from the back. We had a good strategy, and I had a lot of fun on the track overtaking drivers to move from 21st to 10th place. There were guys I had to overtake several times, and there were some nice maneuvers.
Thank you to the fans here in Hockenheim for their fantastic support, even if the weekend didn’t go as planned.
Now, I can’t wait to be in Budapest in a week. I hope to have a better weekend, and we will continue to work hard until we get there.
