Saturday: Williams hoped for a bit better
Williams was hoping for a bit better from this qualifying session. The FW34 has been competitive since the beginning of the weekend, but when the rain fell in Q2, its behavior became more challenging. The first victim was Bruno Senna, who will start only 14th. Maldonado is 5th and aimed a bit higher. In any case, the goal will be to score points tomorrow.
Pastor Maldonado – 7th and 6th [5th on the grid]:
« The weather conditions were really tricky today with the grip level changing all the time. We had a good balance in Q1 and Q2 but when the rain came, I lost a lot of grip which made it difficult to secure a spot on the first two rows. Overall, I’m happy with my position and the weather should be more favorable tomorrow which will suit our car. »
Bruno Senna – 10th and 16th [14th on the grid]:
« We had a good pace in the dry, so it’s disappointing to be in 16th position (14th after the penalties of Grosjean and Pérez, ed.). When the weather is like today, it’s always a bit of a lottery because it’s crucial to be on track at the right time and unfortunately, I was a bit unlucky. It will be difficult to reach the top 10 from this position because overtaking is not easy on this circuit, but our long-run pace has been good all year, so I have a chance to score a few points. »
