Pérez penalized for impeding Räikkönen and Alonso
Sergio Pérez was penalized by the FIA stewards for impeding Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso during Q2 this afternoon.
After Romain Grosjean, Nico Rosberg, and Mark Webber, Sergio Pérez is the 4th driver to receive a grid penalty for the German Grand Prix. But unlike the other three, the Mexican driver was penalized for his on-track behavior and not for a mechanical issue.
The Sauber driver was found guilty of obstructing Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen, who had complained to his team via radio during the qualifying sessions.
Pérez, who was supposed to start from 12th place at Hockenheim tomorrow, will ultimately start from 17th place due to this 5-place penalty imposed on the driver for his involvement in two similar infractions during the same session, according to the statement released by the FIA stewards.
