DRS prohibited in case of a yellow flag in the activation zone
The FIA has decided to ban the use of DRS if there is a yellow flag in the system's usage zone.
Sebastian Vettel was penalized in Barcelona for not slowing down enough during a yellow flag because the German driver had used his DRS. The same situation occurred in Valencia with Michael Schumacher, but he was not penalized, as the stewards determined that he had slowed down sufficiently.
Following these two different decisions, Christian Horner, the director of the Red Bull Racing team, expressed his desire for a clarification on the use of DRS in the event of a yellow flag in the defined zone for its use. It seems that this clarification was made this weekend at Silverstone.
In any case, this is what *Autosport* claims based on an incident from the British Grand Prix. Pastor Maldonado and Sergio Pérez collided at the end of the DRS zone, with the Mexican’s Sauber remaining off track, which triggered a yellow flag. Subsequently, the race direction decided to disable the use of DRS.
In case of a yellow flag in the DRS zone, drivers will have to do as they do anywhere else, but to avoid confusion, drivers were informed this weekend in England that from now on, in case of a yellow flag in the DRS zone, the use of the system will no longer be possible.
