Sunday: Kobayashi Sorry, Pérez Promoted at Sauber
After disappointing qualifying, the Sauber drivers could have aimed for points if not for a collision between Sergio Pérez and Pastor Maldonado, which forced the Mexican to retire, and an accident in the pits, for which Kobayashi took responsibility, relegating him out of the points.
Kamui Kobayashi – 11th:
« Above all, I take responsibility for the accident during my stop and I want to apologize to the team. Of course, I had to push hard for points, but I probably braked too late in the pit lane. The front wheels locked up, I couldn’t control the car, and that’s how I missed my spot. I am deeply sorry for what happened and I hope the three mechanics I hit recover quickly. Until that moment, my race was going well. I had climbed from 17th place on the grid to a position in the Top 10, and I could hope to score points. »
Sergio Pérez – Retirement:
« I am very upset that my weekend was ruined. I braked later than Pastor Maldonado, he didn’t leave me enough space at all, and he just ran into me. From my point of view, it wasn’t a racing incident. It’s a shame because my car was behaving really well. I had moved from 15th to 7th place before my stop and I was confident I could score points.
