Sunday: Hard to do better for Vergne and Toro Rosso
The much-anticipated rain by the people of Faenza ultimately did not make an appearance on the Silverstone circuit. After a poor start, Ricciardo spent a large part of the race battling with Vergne, who had started from the back row of the grid.
Daniel Ricciardo – 13th:
The race unfolded very quickly. The start was very bad and on the line the car just stayed stuck with the wheels spinning, even though it had worked well during the formation lap. This means I lost several positions right from the start. My first lap was a bit hectic as a car went wide on the inside of turn 7 and I was pushed to the outside. I pushed and tried to do my best and after passing my teammate, I started driving at a better pace.
The other stints were identical: after the stop, we didn’t seem to have enough speed, but gradually I could push harder. My lap times were at the maximum of my capabilities, as evidenced by the pain in my neck when getting out of the car.
Jean-Eric Vergne – 14th:
« I think I had a good race, without making any mistakes. I did what I could, gaining as many positions as possible, getting the most out of the equipment we have at the moment.
The best thing about this weekend is that I feel like I learned a lot, but it’s not the kind of result that makes you particularly happy.
We must improve the performance of our car as quickly as possible, and I know the team is working hard to achieve this. We can only hope that the updates, when they arrive, will allow us to enhance our performance and ranking.
