Saturday: Great performance by Schumacher in the rain
The Mercedes AMG team saw its drivers achieve different performances after the resumption of qualifying. Nico Rosberg was unable to get out of Q2, while Michael Schumacher managed to do so. The German driver then posted the third-fastest time in Q3, a result that delighted him.
Michael Schumacher – 14th and 3rd:
I am obviously delighted with today’s result – after all this, we are back in the top 3. It didn’t seem so good before the stoppage in Q2 because my visor was completely fogged up, and as a result, I had a more than exciting lap! But then everything went smoothly in Q3. We were competitive with both intermediates and rain tires, so rain is welcome tomorrow. Third position is a good place to start the race – I am looking forward to it.
Nico Rosberg – 18th and 13th:
I wasn’t fast enough overall today, and we need to understand why this happened because it’s a bit surprising since yesterday, I was much faster in the same conditions. But I remain confident for tomorrow and I’m looking forward to the race because this year, it’s possible to score big points even when you start far on the grid. A big thank you to all the fans who were there today. Even when it was raining heavily and we weren’t driving much, they created a fantastic atmosphere.
