Saturday: Disappointment in the Marussia camp

The Marussia team experienced a problematic day and nothing went as they had hoped. Charles Pic had to change the engine and gearbox, and Timo Glock spun during qualifying while he was improving.

Saturday: Disappointment in the Marussia camp

Timo Glock – 21st and 21st [20th on the grid]

The qualifications that seemed promising ended in a very frustrating way, and it could have lifted the team’s spirits after such a difficult week. The last lap of my second stint was very good, and I thought ‘Wow, we might have a chance to be in Q2 here’. Then I came onto the straight and there was a lot of water in front of me. The last sector was really wet, whereas it was dry before, I thought ‘I can’t believe it. We’re going to lose everything’. In the last two corners, there was no grip, and I couldn’t continue at the same pace as at the beginning of the lap, so ultimately we finished in a position similar to usual. I’m disappointed for the team, but on a positive note, we might have a good surprise tomorrow because the car seems to be working well. We must accept it and extend today’s promises to tomorrow and see what the weather will bring.

Charles Pic – 22nd and 24th

A very disappointing day for me. This morning, we worked hard to ensure a positive result, but we had a fuel pump problem and I stopped on the track. We managed to bring the car back quickly enough, which gave us a chance to return to the track – and we did, with 15 minutes remaining – but very soon the car stopped again for another reason, so we were unlucky during this session. After some changes to the car during the lunch break, with an engine and gearbox change, we were going step by step in my last stint and my first two sectors were good. Then the rain fell in the last sector and I had to slow down because of the yellow flags caused by Timo’s spin, so I couldn’t improve. It’s disappointing, but we have to hope for a better end to the weekend. I’d like to thank the team for their tremendous work during the lunch break today to ensure we weren’t delayed at the start of qualifying.
