Maria de Villota’s condition improves

We feel comfortable enough to share the latest news. After announcing a stagnation of her health condition on Thursday, Marussia returns this time with better news about their test driver, who was seriously injured last Tuesday following an accident with a team truck during straight-line testing at Duxford Aerodrome.

Earlier in the day, Maria underwent a new operation at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. It was a scheduled operation that depended on the stability of Maria’s head injuries, and this morning, the medical team was quite pleased that her progress allowed for the procedure to take place. The surgeons successfully completed a new phase of the surgery required to treat Maria’s facial injuries. After the long initial procedure, which began on Tuesday and ended on Wednesday, today’s operation took much less time, according to the statement available on the Russian team’s website.

« Since today’s operation, Maria’s condition regarding the head trauma she suffered has significantly improved, to the point that she is now in a “serious but stable” condition. » As a reminder, Maria de Villota’s condition was considered « critical but stable » since Wednesday. Encouraging signs that should not overshadow the seriousness of the Spaniard’s injuries, including the fact that she lost an eye in the accident: « Even though Maria remains severely affected, this confirms that she has responded well to the treatment she has been receiving since her accident. »
