Friday: Massa and Alonso count their tires at Ferrari
Like most leading teams, Scuderia Ferrari ran conservatively during Free Practice 1 and 2 in order to preserve Wet tires for the rest of the weekend. Therefore, it's impossible to draw any conclusions about the condition of the F2012 at Silverstone.
Felipe Massa – 5th and 15th:
The day was made difficult by the rain. It rained the entire time, and as a result, it disrupted our work schedule, so we decided to ride just a little to save tires for tomorrow and Sunday.
Obviously, this means that we were not able to test what we wanted, especially regarding the small developments we brought for this Grand Prix. I only completed three timed laps, so it’s impossible to say anything about how the F2012 behaves on this track.
Tomorrow, regardless of the conditions, we will try to do more laps to be as well prepared as possible for qualifying and the race. We will try to do what we can.
Fernando Alonso – 22nd and 10th:
« There is very little I can say this afternoon, even less than usual on a Friday. We did very few laps due to the rain and because the regulations limit the number of wet weather tires available, there’s no reason to do more laps. In truth, it was better to preserve the tires because the weather forecasts are certainly not encouraging as it is said that it will rain all weekend. In other circumstances, if the rest of the weekend was expected to be dry, perhaps we could have done more laps, but under these conditions, as I said, that was really not the case.
The car seemed OK on the wet, but it’s practically impossible to say where we stand compared to the others. Let’s hope that tomorrow morning we can do some laps on the dry to get at least an approximate idea of the car’s behavior with the Soft and Hard tires that Pirelli has provided.
Regarding my off-track excursion at the end of the session, the car aquaplaned and I lost control. It’s unfortunate for the front wing, and we now have to see if we can repair it.
