Friday: Vettel and Webber think about the spectators
Given the weather conditions, the Red Bull drivers drove conservatively, managing their tires. Vettel and Webber nevertheless thought of the spectators who, as a result, had little action to enjoy.
Sebastian Vettel – 11th and 13th:
« We cannot go out if there is too much water on the track as we could quickly go aquaplaning. I think Senna went out and it showed us how quickly it can cut short. It’s really unfortunate for the fans gathered in the stands waiting for the cars to come out. I think of them.
We were able to drive a little at the end, but for us, it is not very useful as we cannot try anything in these conditions. I think the weather will be the most important factor in determining the rest of the weekend. Hopefully, it will be a bit better tomorrow so we can prepare for the qualifications.
Mark Webber – 6th and 23rd:
« It’s really unfortunate for the fans today. All the drivers and everyone on the teams are thinking of them because it wasn’t the best day to see action, but obviously we have to keep an eye on the number of tires we have left for the rest of the weekend. There’s a good chance we’ll need them, so we had to be cautious with the number of laps we did with them.
We must take our hats off to the spectators and the support they showed us in absolutely dreadful conditions. I really hope many of them will be back tomorrow because we have no choice but to move forward.
