Although the first day of the British Grand Prix took place in the rain, the Toro Rosso drivers are satisfied with their testing at Silverstone, as they believe the conditions might allow them to be more competitive than usual.

Friday: Toro Rosso loves when it rains

Daniel Ricciardo – 2nd and 22nd:

« It seems that the rain will continue for most of the weekend, so today was not a waste of time, even though this afternoon it rained too much to be able to do many laps. The morning session went well, we only used the Rain tires and it gave me confidence in the car in these conditions for tomorrow.

We also worked a little on the setup but we didn’t change much because in these conditions, the driver makes a bigger difference.

In the afternoon, we put on the Intermediate tires, but only for a few in-and-out laps. Rain certainly levels the performance differences between the cars, so I would be happy if the rest of the weekend continues in the wet.

Jean-Eric Vergne – 10th and 14th:

Today’s test day was useful to allow us to acclimate to the very wet conditions and to find out which direction to go in terms of settings for what promises to be a very wet weekend. The times mean nothing because the conditions changed a lot and during my last stint, the rain intensified.

We would have liked to run more on the Intermediate tires, but the track surface was never dry enough to use them. There wasn’t much we could do to improve the car, although we did make some setup changes between the two sessions, even though it’s difficult to assess due to the varying water levels on the track. The rain certainly levels the playing field in the pack, so I expect us to be more competitive than in recent races.
