Buemi hopes to drive on Friday soon
Not retained by Toro Rosso, Sébastien Buemi has bounced back at Red Bull, and the Swiss driver hopes to be offered the opportunity this year to drive on Fridays for Red Bull Racing or Toro Rosso.
Sébastien Buemi was not retained by Toro Rosso for the 2012 season, but the Swiss driver found refuge with Red Bull as a test and reserve driver for the Austrian team and its sister team Toro Rosso. Buemi told the site Italiaracing that he hopes this will allow him to drive one of the two cars by the end of the season during the first free practice session: “I don’t know if it will be with Toro Rosso or Red Bull, but I hope to be able to drive in free practice 1 of a Grand Prix very soon.”
As a test and reserve driver, Buemi works in the simulator and rarely drives a Formula 1 car at the moment, even though he participates in a few demonstrations for Red Bull or some aerodynamic tests. It’s a way to keep driving. For the demonstrations, the car is not the current one, but there are also the aerodynamic tests.
The Swiss driver believes he has managed to bounce back after not being retained by Toro Rosso and hopes to become a full-fledged F1 driver as soon as possible: «I had a difficult winter after being released (by Toro Rosso). But it’s important that I stayed in the Red Bull family. Hopefully, I can return to F1 as a regular driver – I’m working on it. I don’t know if it will be with Red Bull, I think Webber might stay, but there could be other options.»
