Red Bull will aim for victory at Silverstone
The Red Bull team could have won the European Grand Prix, but the mechanics had other plans. However, the performances seen in Valencia make the drivers optimistic, especially Mark Webber, who will have only one goal: to win on English soil.
Mark Webber really appreciates the Silverstone circuit and even though he’s Australian, this weekend will almost be a home race for him: I’m really looking forward to the British Grand Prix to race in front of stands full of fans who are truly passionate about F1. Most of them will support the British drivers, so there’s a bit of irony in the fact that Silverstone is actually the home circuit for the two Australian drivers on the grid; Daniel Ricciardo and I live in Buckinghamshire!
Sebastian Vettel also appreciates the layout built in the British countryside and the atmosphere that prevails there during each Grand Prix: « Even if the circuit was modified for the 2011 race, it has not lost its magic. For me as a driver, it’s one of the best circuits and one of the most interesting of all. The atmosphere is great, British fans enthusiastically support their compatriots but at the same time they are objective and fair when judging the performance of non-British drivers. In addition to that, they are F1 experts.
The German world champion acknowledges that even if the circuit is not so simple, it offers characteristics that appeal to all drivers, including the uncertainty of the weather: «The track is very demanding for drivers and offers everything a driver loves, particularly with the weather which can be unpredictable in July at Silverstone.»
Mark Webber expects to experience a very spectacular Grand Prix and he hopes to come out on top to finish on the top step of the podium on Sunday: « It’s a great moment for British sport, with Silverstone and the upcoming Olympic Games. I am confident that the British Grand Prix will not disappoint; we approach Silverstone with only one goal in mind and that is to win! »
