Sunday: Force India achieves its best result of 2012
The Sahara Force India team saw its two cars cross the finish line of the European Grand Prix in the points. Despite a KERS problem, Nico Hülkenberg finished in 5th place while Paul di Resta finished 7th. Both men are delighted with this result and hope to continue this way in the upcoming races.
Nico Hülkenberg – 5th
A great result for everyone on the team and for me personally. This fifth place is a great achievement after a long and difficult race. The two-stop strategy worked well, but the last stint was very long and it was difficult to keep the cars with fresher tires behind me in the final laps. So the race was a bit messy at times, but very entertaining and it’s nice to finish it with such a good result for the team. We were a bit lucky with the retirements, but we were well-positioned to capitalize on them, so I’m very happy with this day.
Paul di Resta – 7th
« We were aggressive by making only one stop, and in fact, we were the only car to adopt this strategy. Obviously, when you only stop once, you don’t really want to see the safety car intervene, and that clearly damaged my race and cost me a few places. But with the way the race unfolded, we can’t be too disappointed to finish 7th, and it’s another double points finish for us. Overall, our pace was very good in the race, but it was difficult to maintain tire performance towards the end, and I was really struggling with the car in the last laps. There were some frictions ahead, but we were there to collect points when needed.»
