Friday: Waiting until tomorrow at Red Bull
Today's day was important for Red Bull, who used a modified rear end at the exhausts, of which Adrian Newey himself seemed particularly proud. The lap times set by Vettel and Webber are encouraging, even though we still have to wait until tomorrow to know what these improvements really bring.
Sebastian Vettel – 2nd and 1st:
« We tried new parts on the car today but the lap times don’t allow us to draw definitive conclusions for now. It was important to have trouble-free testing today and I am happy with what we have done. I believe conditions will change again for Sunday. It was a bit cooler today, which makes a difference. It’s tight between the teams, and the right strategy for Sunday is not yet clear. Hopefully, we can take a step forward tomorrow. »
Mark Webber – 3rd and 9th:
The car is running well, but there are things we can still improve. I was more satisfied with the harder tires [the mediums], the balance with the softs wasn’t very good, but we will work on that tonight. The wind played a role, but there will be less tomorrow. Regarding the changes we’ve made to the car, we will know tomorrow if they work or not. The track will be a bit faster and it will be a bit warmer, so we will see.
