Sunday: Hamilton Sends McLaren to Seventh Heaven!

Unlucky since the beginning of the season, Lewis Hamilton finally manages to piece together all the elements of a long-awaited but deserved victory, thanks to an aggressive strategy. As for Jenson Button, he pays the price for a lack of practice during free runs and also for differentiated settings that do not seem to bear fruit.

Sunday: Hamilton Sends McLaren to Seventh Heaven!

Lewis Hamilton – 1st

« It’s a phenomenal feeling to return to Canada and deliver a performance like we did today. This victory is as good as my first F1 win in 2007. In fact, I have to say it’s one of my best races in a long time. It’s fantastic, honestly. Just brilliant. I could hardly believe it when I crossed the line. This emotion inside, like an explosion. It’s just really incredible. This is what I love most about racing.

I always knew the race would be close. So, in the first stint, I was really happy to compete with Seb, and at that moment, I understood that I would surely be in the fight for the win. Our strategy was always to make two stops: we knew it would be the fastest way to reach the finish. I took very good care of my tires today, and I used them knowing that we would make two stops.

I controlled and understood 100% of what happened in the race, it was one of our best races at that level. I told my race engineer, Andy [Latham], to provide me with a continuous stream of information, and he was fantastic. I always knew where I was losing and gaining time, which really helped me.

Each victory is different. Each victory is new, special, and refreshing. And, seeing the whole team wearing their victory Vodafone Red Rocket t-shirts, knowing that the guys at the factory are doing the same, makes it even more special. Finally, the support from the fans has been fantastic, this victory is dedicated to them. I am grateful to them.

Jenson Button – 16th

« Above all, congratulations to Lewis and the entire team: they found a lot of speed today and Lewis did a great job. For me, I didn’t find the performance today, and I couldn’t take care of the tires. Overall, the last few Grand Prix weekends haven’t been good for me. But every time you make changes to the car, you hope it will go well and provide an improvement, so I hope we can resolve the issues as quickly as possible. »
