Saturday: Mercedes and Schumacher missed each other

Despite a morning ruined by a clutch issue, Nico Rosberg defended himself quite well by securing the fifth-fastest time in the qualifying session. For Michael Schumacher, a timing issue prevented him from improving his time in the final moments of the session. Both men are counting on their race pace to gain positions.

Saturday: Mercedes and Schumacher missed each other

Nico Rosberg – Unranked and 5th

The qualifying went well and 5th place is a good starting position to achieve a strong result here in Montreal. I can always hope for a podium tomorrow because we have worked very hard on our race pace throughout the weekend. That’s why I have a positive feeling. The race will depend on good tire management, which will be a key factor.

Michael Schumacher – 7th and 9th

Well, that certainly wasn’t the way we planned our qualifying today. Our calculations for Q3 were to go for two laps and push on the second after we saw at the start of Q3 that single-lap runs weren’t working properly. I don’t really know how we managed not to leave early enough to start the second lap, but when I crossed the line, the team told me it was too late. We couldn’t take pole today as we couldn’t match the times of the guys in front of us, but I probably could have matched the time I set earlier in qualifying and started the race from a slightly better position. Now, I have to take things as they are and attack tomorrow as I couldn’t today.
