Saturday: the heat does not suit Sauber
Rather disappointing result for the Swiss team, which fails to reach Q3 for the second time in two races. A braking error for Sergio Pérez disrupted his final attempt, while Kamui Kobayashi believes that the change in temperature between yesterday and today is responsible for the drop in performance of the C31.
Kamui Kobayashi – 13th and 11th
« It was very close today, I missed Q3 by 0.008 seconds. Despite everything, I think on Friday, during free practice, when it was cooler, we seemed more competitive than today. The car’s balance was good yesterday and we couldn’t change that. My best lap was good, and there were no mistakes. I think that was close to what I could do today. Clearly, others improved compared to us. For the race, I think the tires will be quite stable, so it’s not a concern. High temperatures are expected for tomorrow and overtaking is possible here in the long straight with DRS, so I think we can expect an exciting Canadian Grand Prix. »
Sergio Pérez – 12th and 15th
Qualifying in 15th position is a big disappointment for me because a top 10 place was possible. Unfortunately, on the first lap of my last stint with the super soft tires, I flat-spotted during braking in turn 8. The car was vibrating a lot, and I could hardly see the braking points. It’s obviously a difficult position to start from, but my goal is still to score points tomorrow.
