Having two drivers fighting for the title is not a problem for Red Bull
Webber and Vettel in a position to win the world title, does that remind you of something? Christian Horner also remembers having experienced a similar situation but doesn't have any bad memories of it...
After six Grand Prix, the two Red Bull Racing drivers are tied in the championship with 73 points and one victory each. After being largely dominated by Sebastian Vettel in 2011, Mark Webber has returned to his 2010 form driving an RB8 that is less dominant than its predecessor.
We also remember that in 2010 this situation led to some tensions, notably during the Turkish Grand Prix where the two home drivers collided while a one-two finish was within the team’s reach.
However, Christian Horner is not afraid to see his two drivers battle for the title until the end of the season. I think we are in a good position with our two drivers in second place behind Fernando Alonso in the drivers’ championship. A lot has happened since 2010, explains Horner.
« I believe that you can always learn in this business. I think we have evolved as a team and we are still a young team. This applies to the drivers as well. »
This rekindling rivalry also risks bringing up the issue of fair treatment by the Austrian team between the German and the Australian. But for Horner, once again, there’s no reason to worry.
« We are in a position to give the best possible support to our two drivers between now and the end of the championship. It’s so hard to predict what will happen from one race to the next, but it’s positive for the team to have two drivers fighting at the front. »
During the first practice sessions of the Canadian Grand Prix, Vettel and Webber ranked 2nd and 5th respectively.
