Webber sees Red Bull competitive in Montreal

Mark Webber won his first Grand Prix of the season in Monaco, on a track he enjoys. The Australian driver will find a new track he appreciates in Canada, even placing it in his top 5 Grand Prix on the Formula 1 World Championship calendar: « I would say that Montreal is one of the top five Grand Prix of the year because there is a sensational atmosphere. It’s truly a very, very beautiful place and it always provides interesting Grand Prix for various reasons, and last year was no exception. »

Sebastian Vettel agrees with his teammate. The reigning world champion enjoys the Canadian city and its atmosphere: « Montreal is a beautiful city, everyone loves to go there – the atmosphere is always pleasant. Last year, the race was extended because of heavy rain – but it’s a very beautiful place to race. »

The German driver expects a challenging weekend as the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is demanding on the brakes and tires, making it a new challenge to tackle. The circuit is located on an island on the Saint Lawrence River and poses a challenge for the drivers. Similar to the Albert Park track in Australia, the roads are public, so tire wear can be high. There is also significant wear on the brakes, which can be problematic.

Mark Webber knows it won’t be easy given these parameters, but he is convinced that the RB8 will be competitive in Canada. He is also eager to demonstrate it on track: « It’s a circuit with low downforce, long straights, and high top speed, which is a very different challenge. We’ll see how it goes, but we are confident that our car should perform well there. I love driving on this track: it’s a good circuit to test ourselves, a bit like a street circuit, so I’m looking forward to racing there. »
